Painting is
color, color is light, and light is abstract.
I work abstractly so I can explore light in its purest form.
I painted for many years with some element of the
recognizable in my work. Often, objects became a convenience
that dictated the logic of a composition. By painting with form
and color alone, I seek to create an experience different than
one prompted by recognizable images; an experience enlivened
by the intricate logic of abstraction.
The visual experience is a complex set of responses.
Form and color begin as my own specific responses
to stimulus and the work then progresses to a place where
I become secondary. Color is driven by the necessity for
light and form by the necessity for movement. Each finished
piece reveals the logic of the form and color that has
emerged and is a rendering of the history of its discovery.
